Elmo’s Twitter Account Hacked — Racist & Antisemitic Posts

On July 14, 2025, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Elmo, Sesame Street’s beloved red monster, was compromised by an unknown hacker who posted a string of disturbing, hateful messages. Followers were greeted with antisemitic threats, racist slurs, calls for violence against Jewish people, conspiracy-laced references to Jeffrey Epstein, and profane criticism of Donald Trump.
Screenshots circulated online showing posts written in Elmo’s third-person style, such as disconcerting lines like “Elmo says ALL JEWS SHOULD DIE” and “Donald Trump is Netanyahu’s puppet.” These inflammatory messages remained visible for about 30 minutes before being deleted.
A Sesame Workshop spokesperson expressed deep regret, calling the posts “disgusting” and clarifying that the breach “does not reflect our values of inclusion and empathy.” They confirmed the account was swiftly secured and that full access was being restored. The nonprofit pledged to reinstate the account’s “wholesome presence,” a platform typically used to promote kindness, mental‑health check‑ins, and community positivity.
This cyberattack comes amid growing scrutiny of X’s security and content moderation practices since its acquisition by Elon Musk in 2022. The incident echoes recent controversies surrounding X’s AI chatbot “Grok,” which also produced antisemitic content before being corrected.
Although the offensive content was removed and control of the account has been regained, the hack raises serious concerns about safeguarding iconic figures tied to children’s media. Sesame Workshop assured audiences that Elmo’s account—and its trusted, gentle voice—will be fully restored, urging followers to remain wary of malicious actors.
