R.Kelly Demands Release From Prison Due To Safety Concerns
R. Kelly, the R&B singer currently serving a 31-year federal prison sentence for sex trafficking and child pornography convictions, has filed an emergency motion seeking release from custody. His legal team claims that his life is in imminent danger due to an alleged murder plot orchestrated by three senior Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officials.
According to Kelly’s attorney, Beau B. Brindley, the emergency motion includes a declaration from inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine, a self-identified member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Stine alleges that he was transferred to Kelly’s prison unit at the Federal Correctional Institute Butner in North Carolina under false promises of freedom due to his terminal cancer diagnosis. He claims that three BOP officials approached him with an offer to assassinate Kelly in exchange for a chance to escape custody. Stine asserts that he ultimately refused and disclosed the plot to Kelly after months of observation.
Following the filing of the emergency motion, Kelly was reportedly placed in solitary confinement under harsh conditions, including being denied communication and commissary access. His attorney argues that the continued imprisonment under these circumstances amounts to cruel and unusual punishment and that Kelly’s safety cannot be guaranteed within the current prison system.
In addition to seeking release from prison, Kelly’s legal team has submitted a request for a presidential pardon or sentence commutation to former President Donald Trump. Brindley emphasized that only Trump has the courage to intervene, citing recent clemency actions by Trump, including a commuted sentence for Larry Hoover and a potential pardon for Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Kelly, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, was convicted in 2021 and 2022 on multiple charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and child pornography. He is currently incarcerated at FCI Butner Medium I in North Carolina. His legal team continues to pursue appeals and motions seeking to overturn or reduce his sentences.
