A few weeks ago on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he joked that the recent Republican Presidential debates doubled as campaign ads for Barack Obama. While the comedic media can have fun joking about the incompetence of the Republican effort to dethrone Obama, the reality is they’re not too far from the truth.
The election is less than a year away and it seems like a game of roulette is determining who the frontrunner is for the Republicans will be on a monthly basis. Herman Cain seemed to be the answer until his bow out. It was Cain who was the clear frontrunner until allegations of past sexual abuses arose in late October. The entire situation was fishy as he wouldn’t just come out and admit that it happened and see if he could move on from it. It ended up tearing his whole campaign down. But admittedly, it would have been fun to seeing heads explode watching Cain battle Obama next year. Oh the headlines, the jokes, the outrage from well, you know.
Much of those supporters went to former White House speaker Newt Gingrich who besides having the coolest name in the race also seems to be, for now, the leader in the Iowa caucus polls. But really, do you think any of these candidates has a snowball’s chance to challenge Obama next fall? Realistically, no. But it will be entertaining to watch them try.
Their best chance was to rely on the American people hating Obama enough to deter them from voting for him again, a strategy that we saw worked oh so well for John Kerry and the Democrats in 2004 with one George Bush. It isn’t going to happen this time for the Grand Old Party. Perhaps they’re reloading for 2016, just ask Sarah Palin.
But I would suggest you all keep up with the race. It’s good for keeping up with the issues of today. That and I strongly disagree with people who vote for a candidate just because. Know who you’re voting for and more importantly, REGISTER YOURSELF TO VOTE!!
