As the story goes, Camacho and an associate were sitting in a car in Bayamon, Puerto Rico when a car pulled up beside them and began firing shots into Camacho’s vehicle. Camacho was shot in the face and neck numerous times. One of the bullets hit Macho in the jaw and exited out the back of his head and later lodged itself in his right shoulder. He could possibly be paralyzed because two of his vertebrae Things got really scary for Camacho because while being rushed to a San Juan hospital, Camacho went into cardiac arrest. “The situation with ‘Macho’ is very delicate,” Centro Medico director Dr. Ernesto Torres told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday. “The prognosis is not good. He went into cardiac arrest. The doctors were able to get his heart started again with the medicine and we are maintaining his blood pressure and pulse stable medically right now to see whether during this morning, afternoon or evening we see a positive change.”

Camacho’s associate died inside the vehicle during the initial attack.
In the 1980s, Hector Camacho won titles in the divisions of superlight weight, lightweight, and junior welterweight. His high-profile boxing matches with Sugar Ray Leonard, Felix Trinidad, and Julio Cesar Chavez made him a boxing superstar. The bout between him and Leonard is most notable because Camacho knocked Leonard out and ended his comeback attempt in 1997. However, Camacho’s life has been marred by drug and alcohol abuse since he left the sort of boxing.
