In a shocking turn of events to Basketball fans around the world, the NBA and The NBA Players Association have reached a tentative agreement that will end the NBA Lockout. Full details of the agreement have not been released, but here is what we know.

  • 49 – 51 Band split for players
  • Full Mid-Level Exception for all non tax paying teams (four years starting at $5 million)
  • 10% maximum on escrow withholdings
  • Extend and trade deals modified, but maintained (The Carmelo Deal)
  • Compromise on “Repeater” tax
  • New benefits pool for players
  • Match period on restricted free agents reduced from seven days to three days
  • Union likely to re-form by end of next week

Now that we’ve gotten the formalities out of the way, lets talk about what really matters to our listeners and viewers.

The reduced 66 game NBA season will officially start with training camp scheduled for December 9th. The first regular season games will start Christmas day. As a treat for the fans, NBA Commissioner David Stern announced there will be a Christmas Day Triple Header.

For now the details of the six teams to play in the triple header have not been released. We can be sure that the NBA’s flagship teams, Los Angles Lakers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks are sure to be among the chosen teams.

For Philadelphia 76ers fans we will get to see the new atmosphere promised by the teams new ownership group, led by Joshua Harris and partnered by Philly’s own Will Smith.
