Yesterday, July 31st, was Black Women’s Equal Pay Day.

It takes the average black woman in America 19 months to reach the average salary of a white male. Black women make 63 cents to every white males dollar, and yesterday was that 19 month mark.

Women in general are out earned by men, taking home 80 cents for every dollar paid to male colleagues. April 4 noted the extra four months it took women on average to reap what men had in a year, but July 31st was all about black women.

Celebrities, lawmakers and women all around took to social media to call for an end to the gap. From Tracee Ellis Ross to Representative Gwen Moore to Serena Williams, black women were out in full force.
