The term “sell-out” has perhaps never applied to anyone so well as it has for New Jersey governor Chris Christie. Back in February, he endorsed Donald Trump, shocking all of his friends (and enemies) in the Republican party. It then became very evident during one of Trump’s speeches, as Christie stood off to one side watching, that he may not have been so secure in his decision to put his entire reputation (which was already faltering) on the line for the real-estate-mogul-turned-presidential-candidate.
Christie’s decision to back Trump hasn’t been any less weird for those of us watching this election play out, especially as he recently began defending Trump’s deplorable tax and business history. There’s only one conclusion that makes any sense; he’s hoping to reap some benefits for putting his name behind the worst presidential candidate in American history.
