On this date in 1992, Sir-Mix-Alot unleashed his second single “Baby Got Back” from his third album Mack Daddyand became an instant hit and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for five straight weeks.

In an interview back in 1992, as he describe it “The song doesn’t just say I like large butts, you know?” he clarified. “The song is talking about women who damn near kill themselves to try to look like these beanpole models that you see in Vogue Magazine.”

He also admitted that the inspiration for the song was based off of Jenifer Lopez back in her Fly Girl days. The song still lives on to this day as Nicki Minaj used it to sample her latest smash hit “Anaconda”. Relive the single below!
