Mary J. Blige has no desire to expand her soundtrack-writing resume with “wack” movies, insisting her film projects have to “move” audiences.
Blige insists she’s choosy about her big screen projects and would never have considered lending her music to a movie like Tim Burton’s adaptation of fantasy tale Alice in Wonderland. She says “In order for something to come across as real, you have to know it yourself. That’s why I gravitate to films like “Precious,” and why I’m playing the role of Nina Simone in her upcoming biopic. Poverty, molestation, suicidal thoughts, drugs, alcohol… I have lived it. I couldn’t work on something like Alice in Wonderland. That’s not real. How can I move a group of people with that?”

“I have a responsibility which is bigger than just the singing. It’s God working through me.”
