There are some things that occur in sports that are hard to explain so that the average person can relate. I played strong safety in college and can remember a time hitting an opposing player so hard that I lost feeling in my mouth and the ability to hear anything for a few seconds, all while being fully conscious. Some people may think this is a frighting thing but it let me know that I brought the hammer that play as well as the expressions of pain on the opposing tight ends face.

I say this because this is the only thing that I have ever experienced that can relate to what the fans of the Saint Louis Cardinals are going through today. I mean as a fan base, could you imagine watching sports center or the sports ticker on the bottom of the screen and seeing that the Identity of your sports team has been signed away by another team. And it has to be a numbing feeling coming fresh off of a World Series Championship. The Cardinals fans can’t even enjoy an offseason filled with hopes of repeating, they now have to focus on rebuilding.

Team sports are suppose to be successful because of the overall performance of the team but sports like Baseball and Basketball can easily be dominated by one player. Looking over our professional teams in Philadelphia, is there any athlete that we are emotionally tied to who is also considered one of the best in their sport?

Of hand, the last player that the city was emotionally attached to who was regarded as one of the best was Brian Dawkins, and Reggie White before that. Chime in and let us know who holds that special place in our hearts now?
