76ers select Johni Broome with pick No. 35

The Sixers drafted another young talent, Johni Broome
The Auburn All-American was taken by the Philadelphia 76ers with the No. 35 pick Thursday night, five selections into the second night of the 2025 NBA draft.
Broome looks to make an immediate impact in the NBA, working alongside former MVP Joel Embiid.
Broome, the 2024-25 SEC Player of the Year and Karl Malone Award winner – an honor given to the nation’s best power forward – averaged 18.6 points on 51.0-percent shooting, an SEC-best 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 30.3 minutes in 36 games. He was the lone SEC player to average a double-double in 2024-25, having tallied 21 such games throughout the season.
In his final collegiate season, Broome led the Tigers to their first Final Four appearance since 2018-19. He produced 16.8 points and 12.0 rebounds in five contests and was ultimately selected to the 2025 South Regional Team.
Prior to his three-year stint at Auburn, Broome spent two collegiate seasons at Morehead State University, where he was named the OVC Freshman of the Year. A two-time All-OVC First Team selection and the OVC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021-22, Broome averaged 15.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 1.0 assists, and 27.1 minutes across 64 collegiate games with the Eagles.
All told, Broome appeared in 168 games (163 starts) over five seasons at the collegiate level, averaging 16.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots, and 1.7 assists per contest.
