A video went viral of a man surprising his mom after serving 21 years in prison. He went to prison at the age of 16.

He is from right here in Philly. His name is Raheem Shackelford. At 16 years old, he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Just days after his release he stopped by the Quincy Harris Morning Show. He spoke about having a Public Defender.

The don’t care. They get paid a certain amount of money and they are going to do a certain amount of work. The lawyer didn’t do much. I think there was a lot of other things involved with that-a sell out, if you will. Meaning, my case for another case.

Quincy told a story about a friend of his who was in jail for five months:

I had a friend who as in jail for five months and he was calling me telling that even if you didn’t do it, they (Public Defenders) were coming down offering time. They would say, ‘hey we can give you 10 to 15 years’ you would say, ‘I didn’t do it’ they would leave and come back and offer you 5 years. You would say you didn’t do it again, the would leave and come back with an offer of 2.5 years. Imagine if you accepted the first offer?
