Janelle Monae will receive the Vanguard award at this year’s ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards.
According to ASCAP, the Vanguard Award is given in recognition of the impact of musical genres that help shape the future of American music.
Dr. Dre will also be honored with “The Founders” award.
It’s not hard to see how Janelle Monae could be chosen for this award. Anyone that has heard her album knows that she is bringing a refreshing new sound to the music industry.
