Joe JacksonMichael Jackson’s father Joe Jackson finally opened up to Oprah about reports of “whippings” he served up to prevent his nine kids from “going bad.” Joe Jackson has often denied his most famous son’s allegations of beatings and whippings and he attempted to avoid the subject completely when Oprah Winfrey asked him to be honest about his punishment methods during a candid taped interview for her TV show.

But his wife Katherine insisted the world should know the truth, stating, “You might as well admit it; that’s the way black people raise their children… He (Joe) used a strap.”

Joe Jackson then admitted, “I would have punished by whipping them with a strap or something if they did something wrong … It would have kept them outta trouble, outta jail. My kids have never been in jail before… and that’s great.”

Asked if he ever regretted his actions, Joe responded, “No, I don’t regret it.”

During the hour-long special, Katherine said her youngest son was “misunderstood” and she had trouble talking about Michael, often tearing up when remembering him.

Towards the end of the show, MJ’s kids along with some cousins, sat down with Oprah and opened up about their father and their lives.

Prince Michael said, in addition to loving video games, he wants to produce movies and direct, while a self-assured Paris said she’d like to be an actress after years of improv practice with her dad. Paris said Michael tried to hide his worldwide fame from them but she realized the veils and disguises were to protect them from prying eyes.

While Paris revealed that he was a strict dad (and an excellent cook, whose specialty was French toast), Blanket interjected, “He could get away with anything.” When asked what she missed the most about her father, Paris responded, “Everything.”
