Deadly 16 Hour Span In Philadelphia Over The Weekend

Philadelphia police are now investigating a spate of six shootings across the city that left at least 12 people shot and two dead, all unfolding within just 16 hours over the weekend, according to authorities.
The violence began on Saturday evening, when officers responded to the 100 block of West Tioga Street around 8:15 p.m., finding a 42‑year‑old man shot multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition. Minutes later, at approximately 8:30 p.m., police arrived at the 1900 block of Hunting Park Avenue, where a gunfire attack left two men dead, and injured a 7‑year‑old child, who was grazed by a bullet, along with the child’s mother who was also shot.
The violence continued just before 9:00 p.m. when a man was shot in West Philadelphia on the 6100 block of Walton Avenue. He was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. A short time later, at a gathering on the 1600 block of Orthodox Street in Frankford, a security guard fired a weapon, injuring one man. That incident is also under investigation.
Early on Sunday, around 5:30 a.m., four people were hospitalized after a shooting in East Falls, near Roberts and Stokely streets. Victims included a 26‑year‑old woman shot in the head and a 23‑year‑old man shot in the leg, both treated at Temple University Hospital, along with two 33‑year‑old men—one shot in the face and the other in the arm. One of the men has since been detained as a suspect and is receiving treatment as a patient, police said.
The violent stretch concluded just before noon on Sunday, when one individual was shot in the 5100 block of Kingsessing Avenue in the Kingsessing section.
Police have not announced any motive or made any arrests in most of the shootings. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and following up with witnesses to try to piece together what connection, if any, exists between these incidents. The breadth and speed of the violence have prompted concern city‑wide.
As the community reels from the chaos, officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist law enforcement in their investigations.
