The Philadelphia Flyers are flying high as they have acquired one of the flashiest young players in the NHL.

The Anaheim Ducks have traded Trevor Zegras to the Flyers, while Anaheim received center Ryan Poehling, the 45th overall pick in this year’s draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Zegras had outstanding first two seasons in the NHL, recording back-to-back 20-goal, 60-point campaigns in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Since his sophomore year, production has dropped off in the two seasons since. A large part has been due to injury issues that have kept him off the ice.

With the Flyers, Zegras joins an exciting young core that includes 20-year-old Russian star Matvei Michkov and 23-year-old Tyson Foerster.

Anaheim have also significantly improved its roster earlier this offseason by trading for Rangers star Chris Kreider.

And the two franchises have done business with one another in the past few years.

When top Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier shockingly asked out of Philadelphia while still at Boston College, the team traded the rights to Gauthier to Anaheim in exchange for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-rounder.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced Wednesday that the 2025-26 NHL regular season will begin on Oct. 7.
