U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Tuesday that 24 individuals in the country illegally were arrested during a Charlotte operation conducted from March 1-8.
According to ICE, those arrested face charges that include 13 aggravated felonies or violent offenses, three illegal weapons charges, and one assault on a federal officer. The agency also stated that two of the suspects are affiliated with the MS-13 gang.
ICE did not release the names of those taken into custody but claimed that six of the suspects had active immigration detainers that were not honored by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, 18 more suspects with unhonored detainers remain at large.
“ICE has been unable to locate those individuals, and they remain at large and pose a potential danger to the community,” ICE said in a statement. “These aliens could have been safely and efficiently transferred into ICE custody if their detainers had been honored.”
