Philadelphia is morning the loss of business owner, and community icon, Sid Booker, who has passed away at the age of 87.
Booker was most notable for his famous fried shrimp takeout and lively entertainment venue that and brought people from all walks of life together for decades.
Philadelphia Radio Legend Patty Jackson took to social media to write a heartfelt tribute along with an Instagram reel, capturing her favorite moments with the Philly icon.
“R.I.P. to a Philadelphia Legend #SidBooker his bar establishment Stingerlapoint at Broad and Bellevue was a staple for over 58 years in the City of Philadelphia. Many politicians are sitting in their office because of Sid booker who was known for his political work and his great shrimp.” Jackson captioned on Instagram. He was a kind man a fair man he was family to so many of us in this city. I love you, Sid. I will miss you forever.Sending prayers to his family”.
Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson released a statement Tuesday regarding Booker’s death, it read in part:
“The passing of Sid Booker is the loss of a legendary business owner in Philadelphia’s African-American Community. His bar has been a must visit location for elected officials for decades.
His support of elected officials is legendary with the election of the first African American Mayor of Philadelphia (Wilson Goode) and the first African American President of the United States ( Barack Obama).
