SEPTA riders are expected to pay more for rides starting in the new year due to budget deficit.

The fare increase is now in effect. Fares on buses, subways, and trolleys are increasing by 50 cent. Regional rail services are also increasing. The hike is happening due to the company needing to maintain current service levels. This is the first price increase since 2017.

Governor Shapiro said he will divert more than $150 million in federal highway funding for SEPTA. While some customers might be upset by the increase, others do not mind the increase if it will better the SEPTA community all together.
