President-elect Donald Trump’s administration pick, Matt Gaetz, is no longer interested in joining the White House cabinet.
The former Representative announced earlier today that he’s formally withdrawing his nomination to become the next Attorney General of the United States. In his announcement, he wrote: “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump / Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”
A source that was shared with ABC News said that Trump’s team recently concluded that Gaetz, who would’ve needed congressional approval to secure his win, was not going to have enough votes for a Senate confirmation. There was an investigation on Gaetz into sexual misconduct allegations against him, including accusations that he slept with a minor. He continuously denies these allegations.
