Baltimore’s rising R&B and soul artist Taylor Avonté found her passion for music at just three years old. With a powerful and soulful voice, she embarked on her musical journey in high school, and has not looked back. Taylor believes that great achievements are possible regardless of one’s background. Drawing inspiration from icons like Etta James, Destiny’s Child and Jennifer Hudson and more, Taylor talks about how those influences aims to strengthen her artistry, and performance skills.
“My mom used to listen to Etta James while she cleaned the house Saturday mornings, Sunday mornings.” Taylor said “I’m inspired by Jazmine Sullivan — people who are vocalist. They inspire me to be better — not only to become a great artist in-studio, but also a live performer.”
Her latest single “Gangsta Love” encapsulates a story of a women trying to look past her toxic relationship, but still fully in love and ready to take risks in order to protect what’s hers.
Taylor spoke on expanding her writers range as she grows into her artistry. As a young 26 year old with so much more life to live, Ms. Avonté talks about getting away from writing strictly ‘love songs’ and wanting to make music that can also fit the everyday person.
“When you think of RNB, your first thought is to think about love and heartbreak” Taylor said. “So even though most of my music that’s out right now is more about those topics , I want to shift it to more (feel good) topics.
Keep an eye on Ms. Avonté; she has a lot in store as she rises in the music scene!
