On Monday (Sept 23) Union Aramark workers went on strike against all three stadiums at the Philadelphia Sports Complex. This includes the Wells Fargo Center, Citizens Bank Park, and Lincoln Financial Field.

Leaders of the Food Service workers union said those on the picket lines includes cooks, servers, bartenders, dishwashers, concession workers, cleaners, retail workers,

The strike is happening due to workers wanting family-sustaining wage increase and year-round healthcare benefits. The union workers said that they are making about $14-16 dollars an hour while the company grossing $18 billion a year.

Strike organizers also noted that this decision was made after Mayor Cherelle Parker struck a deal with the 76ers for a new arena in Center City.

“Before we can even talk about building a new arena, we need to make sure that stadium food service jobs are good jobs.” Said an Aramark concession worker in a statement.

Union leaders still encourage fans to go to the sports games and enjoy events, but they ask them to boycott buying food and drinks from Aramark.

Aramark responded and said the company has agreed to two of the unions demands and that wages have gone up.
