Jordin Sparks stopped by the station ahead of her show today (Aug. 28) at the Foundry, to talk to RNB Philly’s own AshMac about her latest project!

Sparks has been on the music scene for almost two decades and the accolades to accompany that career could fill up a walk-in closet! In the interview, Jordin Sparks talks about her coming of age, and how she felt like sings was always in her cards as a kid, as she would sing anywhere and everywhere she could. She started singing as early as four years old, as a member of the school choir, where she recalls getting her first solo. It wasn’t until she performed at the Arizona State fair when she started to monetize her talents.

“The final round was me and these other adults, I was like 12 years old and everybody else was like 18 or up.” Jordin explained. “I couldn’t find a song that I liked (to sing) in the binder at the time — so I sang  Hound Dog from Smoky Joe’s Cafe, and I won a thousand dollars!”.

At that moment (even before) Jordin knew that she could take her talents to the top. As she progressed in her career, she still was in public school. It was 2008 when she released No Air with Chris Brown, this same year was her senior year of high school. By May of 2018 she had already gained massive popularity from her hometown and she was not seen as a “star”. It wasn’t until prom night where she understood that everyone won’t be a fan of your fame.

“I’m with some of my friends, and we’re dancing, and they played ‘No Air’, and I don’t think the DJ realized that I was there — but people left the dance floor..” Jordin said. “I just was not expecting that… like it was just like “oh… oh, that how (it is)? okay..”

Jordin also talked about her newest project ‘No Restrictions’ which will be in stores Friday September 13th, Life as a wife, as well as a new TV show!
