In 1993, five Compton, CA residents collectively known as D.R.S. had a hit single with “Gangsta Lean,” an ode to their dead homiez.
The song quickly shot to the top 10, probably thanks to the group’s gimmick of being some sangin ass dudes that looked like they would pop a cap in a mark ass buster in a heartbeat.
The group’s success was shortlived, as their second single, “Skoundrels Get Lonely,” was a chart failure. Their album, Gangsta Lean, which contained a pretty graphic song where one of the guys sings about raping a woman, was also quite the epic failure.
So we’re gonna pour out a little liquor for the brothers who aren’t here, and by that, we mean D.R.S. and their career as a group.
