On Saturday September 4th scores of fans, DJs and artists came out to say their good-byes to Fat Beats Records NY store.

After a week of send-offs the finale–with performances by Just Blaze, Sadat X, Craig G, DJ Scratch, Supernatural, DJ Premier and many more –drew a crowd too large to fit in the relatively small space on Avenue Of The Americas.

Fat Beats was started out as a basement record shop in 1994 before moving to its 6th Avenue location in 1996. Local DJ Joe Abajian wanted a place where he could get all of his hip-hop records in one place and Fat Beats was born.

The crowd on Saturday was so thick that fans were being allowed upstairs on a “one out, one in” basis. So the celebration was taken to the streets where fans gathered break-dancing, rhyming and reminiscing about what the legendary record store meant to them.
