According to Fox executives, Jamal Lyon will not return to Empire for season 6. The network released this statement, “By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season 6, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to ‘Empire.'”
Since the city of Chicago is suing Smollett for costs associated with his “attack,” Fox could decide to bring him back if he wins the case.
However, if Smollett is still getting paid from Empire he may not be able to sign on to any other projects.
