UPDATE: 2/21/19 at 10:36AM EST: Jussie Smollett’s mug shot has been released and police say wounds from his “attack” were most likely “self-inflicted.” The Chicago Police Department held a press conference where they stated that Smollett staged the attack because he was “dissatisfied with his salary.”

Empire actor Jussie Smollett turned himself in to Chicago police early Thursday morning. He was arrested for filing a false police report.

Smollett told police that he was attacked by two men who hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him. The men also allegedly put a noose around his neck.

Smollett has gone from accuser to arrested in less than three weeks time. The felony charge against him could put Smollett in jail for 1 to 3 years. He will be in court later today.

Jussie’s attorneys said in a statement that their client “enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked.”
