STUDIO CITY, Calif. – Ex-NBA player Rasual Butler and his wife, Leah LaBelle who appeared on Season 3 of American Idol were both killed in a single car crash in California in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to TMZ, 38-year-old Butler, a South Philadelphia native and former Miami Heat star was drafted in 2002 after an impactful run at La Salle University – where he was a 2-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 Player. Butler went on to play in the league until 2016 — with stints on the Clippers, Hornets, Bulls, Raptors, Pacers, Wizards and Spurs.

Most recently, Butler played in Ice Cube’s BIG3, where he averaged 3.9 rebounds and 11.8 points.

College Career:

Butler played his college career with the La Salle Explorers. He became the sixth Explorer to score over 2,000 points, and at the time of his induction into the La Salle University Hall of Athletes, he ranked fourth among the Explorer’s all-time scorers (2,125). He was named to First Team All-Atlantic 10 (2001, 2002) and was selected to the Verizon Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament team in 2002. He was inducted into the La Salle Hall of Athletes in 2008.
