Roxanne Shante rose to prominence in the hip-hop scene of the late 80s with her song “Roxanne’s Revenge.” She discusses her family friendship with Marley Marl, and how freestyling for just a few minutes on one of his tracks lead to her becoming a prominent name in hip-hop history.

Roxanne recalls the story of how she found out she was on the radio, and how she got the name Roxanne Shante becoming one of hip-hop’s first female MCs at the young age of 14.
