Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def, was arrested in January after trying to leave South Africa on a world passport, which the country does not recognize as a legal travel document.

Bey, who has been living in the country since 2013 but was stopped while attempting to depart this year, was officially granted permission to leave earlier this week, The Guardian reports. However, the Home Affairs Department announced he will be declared an undesirable person for his actions and will not be granted re-entry to South Africa.

The statement reads: “Based on [Yasiin’s] apology, and the confirmation that he will depart… using a valid passport, the department will withdraw the charges against him.”

But it’s not all bad for the rapper, Home Affairs also tweeted:

The legendary emcee received his freedom just in time to come back home to help his boy Kanye – who is clearly going through it these days.
