After three years since the release of the T.L.C docudrama, the former manager sues for defamation of character.
According to Page Six, Perri “Pebbles” Reid has filed a $40 million lawsuit against Viacom over her depiction in the 2013 biopic, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. Reid says that Viacom defamed her in the film.
Viacom filed a motion last year, saying that Reid had no case but a judge ruled against it last Thursday.
The R&B group claimed that Reid took advantage of them, allegedly paying them only $25 per week. Reid’s alleged actions were depicted in the film, though she denies the veracity of the claims.
“We are thrilled with this major win against Viacom and look forward to justice,” Reid’s lawyer told Page Six. “Ms. Reid worked hard to ensure the success of TLC, and she is ready to present that story to a jury. The negative portrayal of her in the TLC movie is simply not the truth.”
For their part, Viacom stands by the film.
