A new chapter in the legend of A Tribe Called Quest has been written with a very special honor.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers announced yesterday (Thursday June 9) that the group will receive the prestigious Golden Note Award.

The honor is set to be presented in a ceremony at the 29th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards and will feature a tribute to Phife Dawg, who passed away earlier this year due to complications from diabetes.

A Tribe Called Quest broke musical boundaries no one knew existed and reached a level of success that only very rare talents accomplish,ASCAP President Paul Williams said in a press release. “We are very proud to present this extremely talented and innovative group with the ASCAP Golden Note Award.”

ASCAP will also recognize the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed rap, R&B and Gospel songs of 2015 in Los Angeles on June 23rd.
