2016 Billboard Music Awards - Show

The Weeknd was a big winner at last night’s Billboard Music Awards, taking home 8 trophies, including Top Hot 100 Artist, Top R&B Album, and Top R&B Artist, among others. Going into the show, he was also leading with 19 nominations.

Undeniably, the past year has been a successful one for the Canadian singer/songwriter. He had three chart topping singles within the past year including “The Hills,” “Earned It,” and “Can’t Feel My Face.” His sophomore album Beauty Behind the Madness won for best R&B album and sold over 2 million copies worldwide. The Toronto-born pop star dedicated the first of his wins to late singer Prince, saying the late artist will still help him “push the envelope.”

Singer Adele also won big, taking home this year’s biggest honors including Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album.
