Music mogul Master P will star in Cinema Libre Studio’s feature film about the Angola 3 prison inmates who were held for decades in solitary confinement.

Master P. will play Robert King, who spent 29 years in solitary confinement before his conviction was overturned in 2001. Cinema Libre has obtained King’s life rights, titled the film “Angola 1, 2 & 3” and promised that a significant percentage of the profits will go to the Angola 3 (King, Albert Woodfox and Herman Wallace’s estate).

The film will be produced by Cinema Libre Studio and financed in association with AGG Entertainment (Chico Brown and Tommy O’Donnell) and China’s GAIA Studio (Lily Yang and TK Wong) with filming scheduled to begin Aug. 15.

The film will be directed by Philippe Diaz (“The End of Poverty?” from a screenplay he wrote with King.

Master P, originally known as Percy Miller, is best known as a music producer but has acted in a variety of movie and TV roles such as “Hollywood Homicide.” His younger brother, Corey Miller (known by the stage name C-Murder), is currently imprisoned in Angola on a murder charge.

“This is a very important story to me since I come from New Orleans and my brother is fighting for his life in Angola for a crime he did not commit,” Master P said.

“But it is also an important story for the entire African-American community,” he added. “It has been clear for decades that these men lost their lives to a system that persecuted them because they were black. If they were white, this never could have happened. Their story made me realize that many men imprisoned in Angola may be innocent for the crimes they are accused of.”

Since his release, King has worked to draw attention to the issue of solitary confinement and has campaigned with Amnesty International.
