Melissa Roshan gave birth to her son Trey when she was just 16 years old. The young mom was homeless when he was born, but she did everything she could to ensure a better future for her child, Mashable reports.

One of the sacrifices she made was missing out on her own prom.

“She never had that experience and she’s risked so much for me throughout my life and made so many sacrifices. I thought it would be the right thing to do,” Trey told ABC 6.

His mother, who is a former model, is an activist for homeless youth and children in foster homes—a cause close to her heart since she too bounced around the foster care system as a child.

Watching his mom triumph over adversity inspired Trey to give his mom the prom she never had.

“I think it shows her how much I appreciate her, cause I really do after all she’s been through and all I’ve been through with her,” he said.

Looked like a night to remember!
