Although Lil’ Kim is no stranger to criticism about her altered physical features, the rapper faced some serious backlash and caused conversations on social media regarding her insecurities as a black woman.

In one of her recent Instagram post, she is showing off her very pale looking skin and long, blonde locks. She captioned the pic “Miami Heat” where she was this past weekend hanging out and doing appearances. Immediately after the post, the internet began posting older pictures of the Brooklyn rapper from the 90’s when she wasn’t covered in makeup dramatically lighter than her complexion and with less “European like” features.

Years ago Lil’ Kim told a media publication she didn’t think she was attractive, and blamed her interactions with men for her low self esteem. “All my life men have told me I wasn’t pretty enough. And I’d be like, ‘Well, why are you with me, then?'” she said. “It’s always been men putting me down just like my dad. To this day when someone says I’m cute, I can’t see it. I don’t see it no matter what anybody says.”

Is this an issue to little girls who look up to her?
