On Jones’ latest appearance on the Mike and Mike show, Jones decided to rock a shirt mocking the Cleveland Indians logo. Instead of reading “Cleveland,” it said “Caucasians” and featured a dollar sign in place of the normal feather. The Chief Wahoo was also replaced with a blond haired man smiling.
The use of Native American symbolism in sports has long been debated, with teams like the Cleveland Indians and the Washington Washington Football Team constantly catching heat for the racially insensitive imagery.
If you think this shirt is offensive, well, that’s the point.
“To have a problem with the logo of this would be to have a problem with the Indians. But if you’re quiet about the Indians, and now you have something to say about my shirt, I think it’s time for introspection,” Jones later explained to anchor Molly Qerim.
Hopefully this jump-starts the conversation about racist caricatures in sports.
