Research has already proven that insomnia is more common in women than in men, and now it seems that women also need more sleep than men to function normally.
“According to researchers at Loughborough University’s Sleep Research Center in Leicestershire, England, the reason women need about 20 minutes more sleep a night than men because their brains are more complex and work harder throughout the day. “Women’s brains are wired differently…so their sleep need will be slightly greater,” says Professor Jim Horne, the director of the Sleep Research Center. “Women tend to multi-task—they do lots at once and are flexible—and so they use more of their actual brain than men do.”
Consider this your excuse to press the snooze button a few extra times tomorrow.
