Father James Bolden of Ferguson, MO is now preparing a funeral service for his only daughter, 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden, after she was shot dead on Tuesday evening in her home.

Jamyla was doing her homework on her bed when someone opened fire outside of her house. She was still alive as she was held in the arms of her grandmother when the police arrived at 9:30 pm. Jamyla later died at the hospital; she started the fourth grade only the week before.

“She was a kind, sweet, very outspoken, very intelligent young woman,” her father said. James said he became hysterical when he heard of the news.

“I never thought in a million years I’d be laying my daughter to rest.”

Jamyla’s mother and brother were also in the home at the time; her mother sustained a gunshot wound in the leg and has since been release from the hospital. Her brother was physically unharmed.

Police don’t have a suspect yet, nor do they have any idea as to what the motive was in the shooting. They have declined on making a comment, only saying they will “do everything possible to find the person responsible” to local news station, WSMV.

Jamyla’s home is close to where Michael Brown was shot dead on Canfield Drive just a year before.
