The New York Times published a report today exposing the Supreme Court’s allowance of lawyers to use “neutral” (read: trivial) reasons to exclude people from joining juries. In fact, research shows that prosecutors in Louisiana, Alabama and North Carolina have excluded Black jurors at double or triple the rates of people from other races. The discrimination that is apparent to jury selection is now increasingly a concern as a public faith in the criminal justice system is dropping and cases of Black people dying of police neglect and violence have come to the forefront.
