Greece & Puerto Rico’s Economies Are In Free Fall

The leaders of Greece and Puerto Rico are twisting their hands in knots over their countries economic issues. Greece is currently closing their banks and have resultantly sent down stocks around the world amid their long-held financial crisis. At the same time, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Alejandro García Padilla, is saying that Puerto Rico is unable to pay $72 billion in debt. Read more at the Huffington Post and the NY Times.

Supreme Court Makes More Groundbreaking Rulings On Execution Drug & Power Plants Before Fall Session

The Supreme Court is meeting for the final time until the fall session. Already, they’ve made major decisions to stop one of President Obama’s biggest efforts to inhibit the spread of emissions and other toxic byproducts from power plants. The Supremes have also allowed the use of midazolam, an execution drug, that prison inmates have complained induce long, painful sensations when being put unconscious. The Supreme Court is also going to re-hear an affirmative action case involving a white female student from the University of Texas who was denied admission. Meanwhile, state officials in some southern states are trying to defy the recent decision to make gay marriage legal nationwide. Read more at the New York Times and the Huffington Post.

Second Escaped Convict Shot & Captured By Troopers

The chase is finally over. David Sweat, one of the convicts that had escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility, with his accomplice, Richard Matt, was shot and caught alive this Sunday. Matt was previously shot and killed when he was caught by a federal agent two days before; both were running away to escape to Canada. Sweat will probably serve seven years on top of his life sentence. Read more at CNN.
