Bun B releases his second studio solo album on this date in 2008. II Trill was the follow-up album to his successful debut album, Trill. This was a major moment in southern rap history because this was the album following the death of Pimp C, and Bun was determined to “ban the syrup talk on his new CD.” The album focused on political and social issues, as well as a tribute track to Pimp C.

The album featured Sean Kingston, Pimp C, Young Buck, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, David Banner, Rick Ross, Mya, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Webbie, Mike Jones, 8Ball & MJG, Z-Ro, Junior Reid, and Juvenile.

The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 charts, selling 98,000 copies first week. The album would sustain a 3 week success on the US charts, and would go on to sell over 300,000 copies.
