Boom Moment In Hip-Hop (May 15, 2001)

On this date in 2001, Missy Elliot’s career lifts off after the commercial success of her third studio album Miss E… So Addictive. This album would go on to spawn 2 of Missy’s biggest singles, “One Minute Man” featuring Ludacris and Trina, as well as “Get Ur Freak On“.

With production credit from Timbaland, Miss E… So Addictive would also go on to be Missy’s most successful album to date selling over 5.2 million units world wide. The album garnered two Grammy nods for “Get Ur Freak On” and the non-single “Scream a.k.a Itchin” for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Female Rap Solo Performance.

Missy Elliot was a huge trend setter for a lot of  emcee’s when it came to style, video production, and choreography during this time, and it just goes to show the impact of this album when she stole the show while performing her smash hits with Katy Perry at the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show, almost 15 years later.
