“Fight The Power” is what Public Enemy stood for on their third album Fear of a Black Planet, which was released on this day in 1990. This year, 2015, marks its 25th anniversary, and looking back at the message today, the songs and tracks still resonate in today’s society.

The album sold 1 million copies first week, and was certified platinum by RCA. To this day, the album is one of hip-hops most celebrated works and a notch in hip-hop history created by Public Enemy. In 2005, the U.S Library of Congress added Fear of a Black Planet to the National Recording Registry because of it transcending political and social influence. Looking back, the album speaks on the corruption and various social issues within government and law enforcement still to this day.
