Eddie Murphy is finally heading back to his old improve roots.  The comedy legend announced he will appear on Saturday Night Live’s upcoming 40th anniversary special.  Murphy became a break out sensation after spending four seasons on the NBC sketch comedy series. The actor/singer left in 1984 to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. During an interview on NewsOne Now’s Roland Martin, Murphy confirmed he will make an appearance on the series since he left over 30 years ago on Feb. 15.

When asked why he never came back since he departed the show, Murphy stated:

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Murphy revealed the show made a joke about him during a Weekend Update sketch in the 90’s that didn’t sit well with him, when his career hit a slump. Murphy revealed:

I made a stink about it, it became part of the folklore. What really irritated me about it at the time was that it was a career shot. It was like, “Hey, come on, man, it’s one thing for you guys to do a joke about some movie of mine, but my career? I’m one of you guys. How many people have come off this show whose careers really are f$*#%d up, and you guys are s*&$#!?g on me?” And you know every joke has to go through all the producers, and ultimately, you know Lorne or whoever says, [Lorne Michaels voice] “OK, it’s OK to make this career crack…
