Where is Tika Sumpter from? Tika Sumpter is from the Queens borough of New York City, where she was born Euphemia L. Sumpter on June 20, 1980. She’s the fourth child in a “family of singers,” according to SoapCentral.com, and while she might have seemed headed for a career as a pop star, this actress, model and musician won’t be limited to one form of entertainment. The future “Haves and the Have Nots” star got started in showbiz at the age of 17, while she was working at the NYC nightspot Life. Her boss encouraged her to try acting, and before she started landing roles, she made her name as a model, booking gigs with Liz Claiborne Curve line, Cascade, and Hewlett-Packard, among other companies. In 2004, she became a co-host on the N Network show “Best Friend’s Date,” and in 2005, she won the role of Layla Williamson on the long-running soap opera “One Life to Life.” That was her big break, and just like that, this Queens girl was off and running on a royal career. She’s since appeared on the TV shows “Gossip Girl” and “The Haves and the Have Nots,” and she’s also made her mark on the big screen, appearing in the films “Sparkle,” “A Madea Christmas,” and “Ride Along.”

The question of where Tika Sumpter is from has likely been a topic of conversation since 2005, when the Queens native made her “One Life to Live” debut. Tika Sumpter played Layla Williamson on the acclaimed soap until 2011, the same year she nabbed parts on “Gossip Girl” and “The Game.” By then, she’d already made the jump to movies, and her filmography at that point included “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “Stomp the Yard: Homecoming,” and “Salt.” In 2012, she appeared in “Think Like a Man” and “Sparkle,” the latter of which put her opposite Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston.

As with so many young triple-threats (yeah, she sings, too), the question isn’t where Tika Sumpter is from, but rather where she’s going next. This native of Queens, NYC, is due to appear on “Ride Along 2″ — a flick that will again put her opposite Ice Cube and Kevin Hart — and she’s still going strong on “The Haves and the Have Nots.”
