The director to the Independence Day film that starred Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum is set to create two sequels based off the 1996 extraterrestrial action movie flick. The movies are going to be set 20 years after the first alien attack from the movie and this begs the question: Is Will Smith going to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller of the United States Marine Corp??? Not so fast says director Roland Emmerich. He tells Entertainment Weekly,
“He’s too big for a movie like this. It would be a Will Smith movie. “It’s Independence Day. And Independence Day was always not about one person. It was always a group thing. And [Will] is too big a star.”-Entertainment Weekly
Reps for Will Smith have yet to comment, but fans around the world are probably hoping to see Will Smith on the big screen in the two sequels, “ID Forever Part 1” and “ID Forever Part 2“. Actor Brian Pullman, whom played the role as President Whitmore in the first film will be back to reprise that role though.
