George Zimmerman will go on trial June 10th for the February 26th shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder. He has claimed the shooting was in self-defense and was justified under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. The prosecution claims, however, that the shooting occurred only after Zimmerman profiled and chased down the teen assuming Martin was committing a crime.
A hearing for the “Stand Your Ground Law” will likely be request by Zimmerman’s legal team and will determine if the law applies to this case. If the judge finds it does apply, the charges against Zimmerman could be dropped.
