The violence in Philadelphia seems to get worse and worse every time we turn on the news. A city named after it’s brotherly love has amassed over 60 murders as of March 5th 2012, and doesn’t look to be slowing down one bit. For the past 5 years the city of Philadelphia has averaged about a murder a day, peaking at 324 murders in 2011, the cities highest count since 2007. 2012 could be the year that breaks all murder counts in our beloved city.
Mayor Nutter has tried combat the violence with strict Curfew Laws, Crime Bounty’s, and new crime fighting technology, but nothing has worked to slow down murders in the city. The most recent crime to splash the newspapers and blogs is a stabbing that took place in Center City Tuesday night which put four people in the hospital.
Something must be done about the tragic violence that has plagued Philadelphia for years. The majority of our crime is black on black or low income, which means we are killing our own people. Gone are the days of brotherly love and if we don’t take a stand there won’t be any brothers left to love. SAVE PHILLY!
