Rueben Canada

The creator, Reuben Canada, said it is a ‘health boost in a bottle’ that is ‘deliciously spicy.’

“If you are dragging, it has a pick-me-up, and the reason it has a pick-me-up is because ginger is an anti-inflammatory,” Canada said. He added that the ginger, along with some cayenne pepper, really gets the blood flowing.

“It’s kind of like having clean oil versus dirty oil in the car,” Canada said. Canada, a patent attorney and Swarthmore College grad, cashed in his 401k and invested all of his savings to sell the concoction he first whipped up in his kitchen at 20th and Spruce. You can now find the original JinJa and the newest flavor, Dragon Fruit, at stores like Di Bruno Brothers, Kroger and Albertsons. Canada says he will never forget the first time he saw it on display at Whole Foods.

“It looked like a JinJa shrine and they said ‘we are going to order 12 cases and I said “12 cases? I’m rich!”

If you buy JinJa online, the company will donate 15 percent of sales to Laurel House, a non-profit that helps victims of domestic violence.
